Armour of God 2: Operation Condor (1991)

Originally released in Hong Kong, the sound and titles have been redone for US release of this better-than-average Jackie Chan (Police Story 2Dragons Forever) actioner. Here, Jackie is an agent who must seek out the location of a large cache of WW2 Nazi gold hidden deep in the Sahara desert.

An amiable spoof-of-sorts on the Indiana Jones series, with lots of astounding action sequences and funny moments tossed in for good measure. Chan is a delight as usual but the bad guys in the film are all clearly miscast, and suffer from more of the same stereotypes that they did in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

The addition of Dolby Surround is nice, but can’t they get some decent music to put into the films? Between the theme of this one and Supercop, I almost lost my lunch in listening to the tacky pseudo hip hop electronica. That said, it is probably the Jackie Chan film I recommend the most as of this writing.
